Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management

Hydrology and
Hydrogeology

An important part of the development of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) projects, that ranges from the development of a country-wide Master Plan to the implementation and sustainable use of such resources in specific area, regions or cities, are the hydrological and hydrogeological studies, including the draft of the related guidelines and strategies for the administration and use of the different types of water sources.

SGAPI has wide experience in both these kinds of projects and is able to manage and perform all the related activities starting from the survey and assessment of the existing condition to the hydrological and hydrodynamic models till the final outputs required by the assignment.

Flood and Drought Management and Landslides Mitigation

SGAPI has developed large experience in the Disaster Risk Management sector that includes projects ranging from detection and hazard mapping of vulnerable and prone areas, analysis of climate change effects on such areas, analysis of flooding and landslide risk profile, definition of a disaster risk reduction profile, design and implementation of the selected mitigation measures, infrastructure and works.

Integrated Climate Resilience Infrastructure

The need to design, implement, operate, maintain and monitor infrastructure that are adequately prepared to cope with rapidly changing climate conditions and increasingly frequent extreme events has become of utmost importance in the last decade.

This is particularly true for infrastructure aimed at satisfying the basic human needs or protect lives and properties.

SGAPI has promoted and has been involved in the design and implementation of Integrated Climate Resilient Infrastructure in several sectors including: water supply, water resources, storm-water/drainage, wastewater, transportation and urban planning.

Sustainable Nature-Based Solutions

SGAPI has developed relevant experience in the design of Ecosystem-based or Nature-based solutions and adaptation measures to improve the conditions of areas negatively affected by climate change related events or actions that led to the degradation of the indigenous environment and landscape.

The proposed interventions/options are usually cost-effective solutions that allow to reach a proper level of protection, mitigation or restoration of specific environments in different possible scenarios. The green and Nature-based approach has widely proven to be a technically and financially sustainable long-term solution to protect critical, fragile and climate change exposed areas.
