Irrigation
and Agricolture
SGAPI has large experience in the development of catchment management plans and strategies, assessment of water resources and allocation of the same among the needs of the region with particular focus on irrigation schemes and agriculture. The scope of this kind of studies, design and projects implementation activities is to boost the irrigation system (especially in rural areas) upgrade the technologies adopted, enhance the efficiency of water resources, and exploit the available source of water for agroforestry development. The elaboration of development strategies, the identification of priority works and interventions to be carried out, and the draft of investment plans are a relevant component of this kind of services. GIS-based maps showing water and land use and hydraulic-mathematical models are some of the important tools that SGAPI is used to adopt and develop in the Irrigation assignments.
The activities in this sector have been mostly performed in rural areas of developing countries where the projects outcomes generated relevant improvements in the economy of the region and have been part of large plans of poverty reduction and social inequality mitigation.
